A Fortune Underfoot
Last week, I found a fortune on the ground. It said:
Keep in mind that it's the journey and not the destination that counts.
I don't entirely agree with this quote.
Both the journey and the destination have importance. We have to remember that we have an eternal destination. When our life on earth is finished, we either spend eternity in heaven, or forever separated from Christ.
Our journey in life is our opportunity to see God work in amazing ways, and He allows us to grow and change with each step we take. Our journey helps to shape our character, and search out truth. Each of our paths are filled with valleys and peaks, as well as the occasional pit and boulder.
Sometimes life is painful. People come and go. Waves of depression wash us out. Fatigue lingers. Rain keeps falling. Wind keeps blowing. As a child of God, even in the midst of sorrow and storm, God remains steadfast. His mercies never fail.
God stoops to our level and loves us where we are. We have an never-ending hope in Jesus. The hope of a beautiful destination-heaven. No more pain. No more tears. No more evil.
Without the finish line, why are we running?
